UV Curable Separator Coatings

Miltec UV developed a unique patented technology that replaces conventional binders with UV light curable binders and gives Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB) manufacturers the ability to deliver enhanced safety at a lower cost. Miltec’s patent on UV ceramic coating applies to all types of LIB separators. Our UV process is an energy-saving process that greatly reduces the drying oven length.  The energy savings due to a shorter drying oven, smaller footprint, and higher line speeds make the UV process a significantly lower-cost alternative for separator manufacturers.

The binder chemistry is flexible and can be adjusted to meet precise performance specifications for many properties included high porosity and low shrinkage, up to 356°F (180°C). The UV binder is electrochemically stable and has been tested in batteries operating at voltages up to 4.8 V. Independent tests have shown the cycling stability of our UV binder chemistry is equivalent to PVDF.

The Miltec UV Ceramic Coated separators have been verified for the following properties:
